Holly Bennett Pregnancy and Birth Story

Holly Bennett Pregnancy and Birth Story

Holly Bennett is the mom of two year old triplets!  After experiencing two painful losses, she and her husband tried IVF.  Although the cost seemed astronomical, they decided to give it a try.  The result was three beautiful babies.  Read on as Holly tells us about her triplet pregnancy and delivery.

Was your pregnancy planned or a surprise?

Planned

If planned, how long did you try to conceive?

5 years

How did you share the news with your partner, family, and friends?

We shared a video at Christmas. It’s on YouTube now for public viewing.

Which was your favorite trimester?

I think 3rd. I was huuuuge but by the third trimester all 3 babies were finally determined to be healthy. I also was pretty uncomfortable, but got a couple of weeks in the hospital, so it was nice to be taken care of.

What was your pregnancy MUST HAVE?

I took a lot of baths. I couldn’t eat that much because I’d get reflux.

Did you find out the gender?

Yes. We did CVS testing on all 3.

Were there any complications throughout your pregnancy?

Baby b had an omphalocele in utero. We had to do genetic testing to determine a cause. The tests all came back normal and eventually it closed and he was born healthy. He did develop an umbilical hernia shortly after coming home, but that also healed.

Did you go into labor naturally or were you induced?

I went into labor naturally… In fact I went into labor several times and the doctors had to stop it.

How long were you in labor?

I was in back labor for about 11 hours before I knew what was happening.

Did you get an epidural or go all natural?

Epidural and c-section.

What was the best and worst part about labor and delivery?

I didn’t get to see or hold my babies for 2 days because of the c-section. I wasn’t expecting that. The best part was hearing them cry. I didn’t get to ever hear that with my first delivery, so it was incredibly emotional.

Were there any complications with your delivery?

Not really, but since I was 33 weeks 5 days there was a little NICU time for feeding and growing.

Give us the stats!!

6/9/15 Baby A – Wyatt – 4 lbs 3 oz – 18″ – 10:21 AM Baby B – Beau – 4 lbs 3.7 ounces – 17″ – 10:22 AM Baby C – Savannah – 4 lbs 8 ounces 17 3/4″ – 10:23 AM

What was the hardest thing about the first few weeks of motherhood?

I pumped around the clock and was completely exhausted. Early on we had nights where we got 45 total minutes of sleep.

What is the best advice you received as a new mom?

Accept help. My aunt actually cooked dinners for us that first year. It’s amazing how much people are willing to help.

What is your best advice for expectant or new moms?

I wish I had used a night nanny to help sleep train. Mine still weren’t sleeping through the night at 2 years old.

Is there anything else you’d like to share about your journey to motherhood?

We lost our first born son during delivery and my second pregnancy had chromosomal issues. We had a very long and difficult journey. I feel like anyone can become a mama of they want to, but sometimes we have to take a path that we never considered.
