The Best Remedies for Baby
Watching your precious little baby suffer is torturous. Their bodies are trying to adjust to living in the outside world and they can’t communicate with you to tell you what’s wrong. Luckily, as moms, we tend to have this superpower where we always know what’s bothering them (for the most part). From a gassy belly, to the dreaded pains of teething, here are some of the best remedies for baby.
Gas
Baby Bicycling – When Weston was much younger, I could always tell when he was having gas pains. He wouldn’t nurse normally and I could always hear his poor belly rumbling. Of course I searched the internet for ways to relieve it and found this YouTube video with a strategy that worked wonders! I could literally hear the gas leaving his body.
Mommy’s Bliss Gripe Water – I can’t say enough good things about Mommy’s Bliss. I highly recommend every mommy have a bottle of this stuff on hand. It’s all natural and almost instantly made Weston feel better when his stomach was rumbling. It can be used for gas, colic, fussiness, and hiccups.
Windi Baby – Truthfully, I didn’t know this thing existed a couple months ago, but I’ve heard amazing things about it and it’s one of the top recommended products on Amazon. You can see how it works and read some of the hilarious reviews from grateful moms here!
Stuffy Nose
Nose Frida – The Nose Frida is made by the same company as the Windi Baby. This thing is a literal snot sucker (in every sense of the word). You stick it one of the baby’s nostrils and suck the snot out through a tube (don’t worry, you won’t ingest the snot). Sounds strange, but works like a charm. Fridababy also has a bundle set that includes the NailFrida, the Windi Baby, the Nosefrida, and the Fridet (a peri bottle for postpartum moms).
Saline Drops – If you’re not for sucking snot, you can do what we did and simply use saline drops. Just squirt a few drops into baby’s nose and watch the nostrils clear out instantly.
Boogie Wipes – Boogie wipes are super soft saline tissues for baby. These were another one of those things that I was like “puh-lease” before I had a baby. But, someone gave me a pack for my baby shower and I loved them! When you’re wiping a runny nose all day long, you want to be as gentle as possible and these wipes do the trick.
Eczema
Breastmilk – Guess what? The magical breastmilk strikes again. If your baby is suffering from eczema and you have some expressed milk, dump it in some warm bath water and let baby soak.
Diaper Rash
Desitin or Aquaphor – Both of these are just diaper rash creams and both work great, but, if I had to choose, I’d probably go with the Aquaphor. I like the squeeze tubes rather than the jars simply because it’s less messy. The Baby Bum Diaper Cream Brush isn’t a bad idea either.
Breastmilk – Yup, it’s true. Breastmilk can be used on diaper rash as well. You can buy a makeup brush and just brush it on that poor little bootie.
Constipation
Mommy’s Bliss Constipation Ease – When Weston started eating solid foods, his system was in a little bit of shock. His bowels were no longer on their regular schedule and he started going to days without dirtying a diaper. I tried prunes and all the other foods they say should help them go, but nothing was working. Then, I went to ole’ faithful, Mommy’s Bliss. They have a constipation ease that’s also made of all natural ingredients and it works wonders!
Teething
Teething oil – Guess what no one told me about teething. Once it starts, it never stops. Some of Weston’s teeth have bothered him more than others. The first two on the bottom came in without me even noticing, but the top two were a nightmare. I searched the aisles at Target for something that was safe to rub on his gums, but didn’t find anything for babies his age. I had no idea that these teething oils existed. They’re safe for babies and relive pain almost instantly.
Teething Necklace – These Baltic Amber necklaces are great for teething and look super cute too! They also have teething necklaces for moms to wear. If you have a little one that always wants to chew on your jewelry or is easily distracted while nursing, these necklaces are a must.
Teething Toys – There are tons of teething toys out there, and to be honest, Weston hasn’t really liked the traditional teethers that you throw in the freezer and give to baby. He did like these fresh food feeders. They’re great for fruit or even frozen breastmilk cubes.
