Sheree Nelson’s Pregnancy and Birth Story

Was your pregnancy planned or a surprise?

A bit of both really…I was on no contraception whatsoever for a year. We both had the mind set of ‘whatever happens happens’ we desperately wanted to have a child but didn’t want to force it. When the time was right it would happen, and it definitely did.

How did you share the news with your partner, family, and friends?

My mum and partner were the first people to know…I came home from work after only being there for an hour because I did the test during work hours 😂 once that little test said ‘pregnant 1-2’ I freaked out because I was not expecting it to say yes.  I shared the news with my close friends but didn’t tell the world until I was 18 weeks. By then we had already found out the gender and were both incredibly over the moon.

Which was your favorite trimester?

I loved them all to be honest. I didn’t get any sickness whatsoever so it was a breeze. Probably the third was my favourite because the kicks were full on and I got to nap all the time!!

What was your pregnancy MUST HAVE?

My craving was literally anything bad for you… this is why I put on like 10kg. I just loved food, haha! I also couldn’t live without my pregnancy pillow. Rob does FIFO so I had the whole bed to myself so I could cuddle my pillow 😂

Did you find out the gender?

Yes 💕

Were there any complications throughout your pregnancy?

Nope. Only the fact at 26 weeks I tripped over and dislocated my knee AND broke my elbow haha! Fun times.

Did you go into labor naturally or were you induced?

Naturally at 40+4

How long were you in labor?

14 hours altogether

Did you get an epidural or go all natural?

Epidural after 8 hours in

What was the best and worst part about labor and delivery?

There was really no bad part because I knew everything at the time was temporary.

Were there any complications with your delivery?

Nope it was great.

What was the hardest thing about the first few weeks of motherhood?

Adjusting to minimal sleep and learning how to look after a mini human for the first time.

What is the best advice you received as a new mom?

Cherish every single moment. Time does go way too fast because I don’t even remember Milah being a newborn anymore.

What is your best advice for expectant or new moms?

Take everyday as it comes. Relax and make sure you rest… I know everyone says that but seriously sleep will be your best friend. Also do not be worried about labour, etc. because once it’s over you forget the pain!

Is there anything else you’d like to share about your journey to motherhood?

It is the best damn chapter of my entire life. I love having a child especially a mini version of me. I don’t know where I would be if I didn’t have Milah. It is true when they say is a love like no other.
