How to Make it Through the First Year without Buying Diapers
Four Easy Ways to Build a Diaper Stockpile while you’re still Pregnant
Everyone talks about how expensive babies are. Hospital bills, formula (thank you breastfeeding!), food, gear, toys, clothes, the list can go on and on… and on. But, we’ve been blessed enough to make it through our first year without one major added cost… DIAPERS!
So, how did we do it?

Tip #1: Throw a Diaper Party
Truth be told, I had no clue what a diaper party was until my sister-in-law got pregnant. My husband got invited to a “diaper party” and I was intrigued. A diaper party is the male equivalent to a baby shower (but let’s be honest, its way more fun). It’s a night for your man to get together with his boys and have one last hurrah before the baby comes. The only catch is that everyone who attends the party has to bring a box of diapers. Pure genius. My husband had his a month before Weston was due and invited about 12 guys over for barbeque, beer, and a bonfire. The guys had a blast and I came home to 12+ boxes of diapers in assorted sizes (and even a few packs of wipes)! Learn more about how to throw a fun and easy diaper party!

Tip #2: Add Diapers to your Registry
We were very lucky to have received a ton of hand-me-down baby items… to the point where there really wasn’t a whole lot left to put on our registry. We plumped our registry up by adding lots and lots of diapers in assorted sizes. My baby shower resulted in Pampers and Huggies galore. Bonus Tip: If you’re an Amazon Prime member, sign up for Amazon Family. You get coupons and discounts on tons of things for baby (including 20% off diaper subscriptions… that’s right, they deliver diapers to your door for 20% off. A mom had to have come up with this). And, if you make your registry with them, you get a 15% discount on items that didn’t get purchased from your registry.

Tip #3: Use your Diapers Wisely and make Exchanges
Babies grow fast. I mean real fast. I think we went from newborn sized diapers to size 4 in about 5 months. We had several boxes of diapers that were never opened because Weston grew out of the size too quickly. The good thing is, stores will take your unopened box of diapers and let you exchange it for another size. If we could tell that a particular size was getting a little snug, we would open the smallest package of diapers in that size. That way, we weren’t wasting diapers and could return the larger package for the next size up.
Tip #4: Have a Diaper Raffle at your Baby Shower
I didn’t actually do this, but I heard this idea from a friend shortly after my shower. The way that it works is the person who is throwing your shower (or any one of your friends or family) buys a gift card and raffles it off. Your guests bring a package of diapers in exchange for a raffle ticket. Everyone who brings diapers gets entered into the drawing to win the gift card. It’s easy, fun, and a great way to add even more diapers to your stockpile.
I hope these tips help you save some serious cash on diapers in your first year (and maybe even beyond)! Did I forget anything? Comment below if you have any great ideas for saving on diapers.
