21 Birth Affirmations that will Empower You
Positive Birth Affirmations for Childbirth
Positive birth affirmations may be just what you need to survive the most painful contractions of labor and delivery. The idea of giving birth can be scary for many women. We don’t know exactly what to expect, but we know it’s going to be painful and no one has ever said that bringing a baby into the world is easy. There are many ways you can prepare for childbirth, but creating a list of positive birth affirmations can be one of the most powerful tools to help you through labor and delivery. Repeating these positive thoughts for labor can give you the mental strength to survive any contraction.
What are Birth Affirmations?
Birth affirmations are sayings or mantras that can help you through labor and delivery. Finding birth mantras that are meaningful to you and repeating them during the most difficult parts of labor and delivery can help you stay calm, motivated, and determined.
How can Birth Affirmations Help you Through Labor?
During your pregnancy, it’s important to find a few positive birth mantras that speak to you. These mantras should be easy to remember, meaningful, and give you a sense of empowerment. Repeating these positive birth affirmations during labor and delivery can help your mind focus on the positives, and away from the pain. Birth affirmations have the ability to give you strength, empower you, and have faith in your body’s ability to give birth. Whether you plan to deliver your baby naturally, or hope to get an epidural, it’s likely that your labor and delivery will involve some sort of pain. Having a list of birth affirmations can truly go a long way to creating a positive birth experience.

Birth Affirmations for a Natural Birth
If you have dreams of delivering your baby naturally, coming up with a list of birth affirmations that speak to you is so important. You can repeat these affirmations throughout your pregnancy and during labor and delivery. Liesel Teen, a labor and delivery nurse who runs Mommy Labor Nurse, says that going natural is 90% mental. She created an entire birth course about going natural and how to prepare for success. She talks a lot about “that little voice in your head” and having that little voice repeating positive birth mantras can be a game changer.

Birth Affirmations for an Epidural Birth
Everyone can benefit from having a list of birth affirmations. Even if you plan on getting an epidural, you will still experience pain during childbirth. I had an epidural during both of my deliveries, but I still had birth mantras that helped me get through those painful, pre-epidural, contractions. The ride to the hospital alone had me closing my eyes and chanting birth affirmations in my head. You also want to be prepared for anything that can happen during labor and delivery. Sometimes you have to wait a little while before the anesthesiologist can get to your room. Sometimes, epidurals don’t work. And sometimes, your labor can progress so quickly that an epidural is no longer an option. Creating a list of birth affirmations can help you stay calm and feel in control as you deliver you baby.
